13 Jan 2010 Forming a Community Orchestra
Category: Miscellaneous  | Tags: ,  | Comments off

With her permission, we’re pleased to help spread the word for Kirsten and her community initiative…

Calling All Musicians!
Come and Join a New
Community Band/Orchestra

Do you play – or did you once play – a musical instrument? Do you ever think it would be nice to play with like-minded people in your area – just for fun? We think there may be quite a few people like you around – who enjoy playing but don’t find the time or opportunity – or who have a trumpet in the cupboard that they keep meaning to dust off.

We are hoping to set up a Community Orchestra or Big Band in the New Year – when we will all be full of shiny resolutions – to bring together all that dormant talent. You don’t have to be an expert – just enthusiastic and enjoy making music together, all sorts of music. We anticipate a weekly session in the evening and who knows what that could lead to.

If you would be interested in joining in, please email Kirsten Sagar, phone on 890223 or drop a note into Testbourne school. It would be great to get this off the ground if enough people are keen. Go on – give it a go!

Our Director of Arts, Graham Burgess writes…

Basingstoke and Deane has started a Creative café project much like the one that has been running at The Slug and Lettuce in Winchester. At one of the monthly meetings, representatives from CIBAS explained their role as promoters of the arts and in particular a facility they have of “one to one” meetings with artists wishing to improve their promotional and business skills.

They have agreed to bring those services to Whitchurch and my proposition is that we create “one to one” meetings for any Whitchurch Arts member interested.

If there are several artists in the same category we may follow this up with “one to three” or whatever.

At the end of the day a gathering of the facilitator and our group at large.

I need to know who is interested, what your product is, what times of day you are available — please fill in the form, below, to express your interest in this activity.

Thank You
Graham Burgess

12 Oct 2009 Musical Bells

The Bell pub rang out with music by Keith Bell, and fellow musicians Ken and Mick, Sunday afternoon and evening.

By cooincidence careful planning, the coordinators of Whitchurch Arts held a meeting in the Bell at the same time.  All of our meetings should be accompanied by such enjoyable live music in the future!

Keep an eye on the Whitchurch forums for postings from a fish about the next musical Bells event.
